Insect Village Lodge – Mindima, Chimbu Province
Stay in the Home of the Insect Hunters
We are proud to introduce Insect Village Lodge, our newest tribal lodge in Mindima, in Papua New Guinea’s spectacular Chimbu Province.
Located only around 200 metres from the Skeleton Tribe Eco Lodge, Insect Village Lodge offers guests a completely different cultural experience centred around the famous Insect Hunters of Mindima.
The Insect Hunters preserve and perform traditions inspired by the lives of their ancestors. Through cultural demonstrations, guests can discover how Chimbu people traditionally carried and preserved fire, searched for insects in the forest, hunted and gathered food, and survived using knowledge passed down through generations.
The lodge itself follows the Insect Hunter theme. Each guest room has its own private toilet and shower and is individually decorated with artwork and design elements inspired by the Insect Hunters, creating an atmosphere that connects the accommodation with the cultural experience outside.
Its location also makes Insect Village Lodge particularly interesting for travellers and photographers. Guests can combine the Insect Hunters, Skeleton Tribe and other Mindima cultural groups while staying within the same small area, allowing more time for photography and cultural encounters and less time travelling by road.
For photographers, we can arrange dedicated cultural and portrait sessions with the Insect Hunters, including opportunities to photograph traditional body decoration, forest settings, fire-making and hunting demonstrations.
Comfortable Rooms Inspired by the Insect Hunters
Insect Village Lodge offers nine comfortable guest rooms, including five double rooms, two twin rooms and two single rooms. Every room has its own private toilet and shower, providing guests with privacy and comfort while staying in the heart of Mindima. What makes the rooms truly distinctive is their design: each is decorated with artwork, patterns and details inspired by the Insect Hunters and Chimbu culture. Natural materials and locally influenced decoration give the rooms their own character while maintaining the atmosphere of a traditional tribal lodge. It is a comfortable place to relax after a full day of photography and cultural experiences.
