Discovering the Heart of Papua New Guinea: A Journey with Tribes of Papua New Guinea

If you’re looking for an adventure that immerses you in vibrant cultures and stunning landscapes, traveling with Tribes of Papua New Guinea to the Goroka Festival and the central highlands is an unforgettable choice. My trip in 2024 was nothing short of amazing, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone with a sense of adventure who appreciates a bit of rustic charm.
A Kaleidoscope of Cultures

The sheer diversity of the tribes we visited was breathtaking. Each group showcased their unique colors, traditions, and stories, providing a rich tapestry of experiences that left us in awe. Our guide, David, was instrumental in ensuring we didn’t just skim the surface. He was always on the lookout for the best photography spots, taking us to stunning locations where we could capture the essence of these vibrant cultures. With the help of friendly local villagers, we found ourselves in front of breathtaking waterfalls and amidst lush bamboo plantations—perfect backdrops for those unforgettable photos.
Rustic Yet Comfortable Accommodation

Staying in the heart of rural PNG villages offered a unique glimpse into local life. The accommodations were definitely rustic, but the hospitality of the eco-lodges staff was remarkable. They went above and beyond to make our stay as comfortable as possible, despite the limited facilities. It was a beautiful reminder that comfort can be found in simplicity and genuine warmth.
An Authentic Experience

If you’re seeking to truly experience the real Papua New Guinea, I cannot recommend Tribes of Papua New Guinea enough. Their commitment to authentic experiences, coupled with David’s expertise, made our journey not just a trip, but a deep dive into the rich cultural landscape of this incredible country.

So, pack your bags, bring your sense of adventure, and get ready for a trip that will stay with you long after you return home!

Our experience with Tribes of Papua New Guinea was nothing short of extraordinary. This journey took us into the heart of tribal culture, offering a truly authentic experience. One of the standout moments was the Sing Sing festival—an intimate, vibrant gathering where we were treated as guests, not just spectators. The connection felt genuine, thanks to the deep relationships that Tribes of Papua New Guinea has established with local communities.

Our guides were incredibly knowledgeable, sharing fascinating insights into the tribes’ cultural practices and traditions. They also highlighted the importance of sustainable tourism, which we appreciated as it showed a commitment to respecting and protecting these communities. Accommodations were thoughtfully selected to be both comfortable and deeply connected to the surrounding environment and culture, allowing us to experience the local way of life more fully.

Thank you, David, for putting together such an amazing trip! This was a rare opportunity to engage with one of the world’s most unique and vibrant cultures in a meaningful way. We highly recommend Tribes of Papua New Guinea for anyone seeking a truly immersive adventure that honors the spirit and traditions of the people.

“PNG had been on my list for years to visit.  I had seen the pictures of the tribes in the Highlands and knew this was a must-see.  But I also was keenly aware that this was a very difficult and challenging country to explore.

Thankfully I connected with TOPNG.  After spending nearly two weeks in the Highlands I can say without a doubt that this was my best cultural experience.  Better than the Mundari or Dinka in S Sudan, better than Gerewol in Chad, better than the Himba in Namibia or the Maasai in Kenya.  I had so many genuine interactions during my trip, it was like drinking from a firehouse.  I met dozens and dozens of different tribes and have so many incredible photos.  While on the trip, I had already mentally started to plan my next two trips to PNG.  “
