“The Ultimate Guide to the National Mask & Warwagira Festival: Dates, Highlights, and Safety Protocols”

The National Mask & Warwagira Festival will once again take place in East New Britain Province, this time at the Takubar Sports Field in Kokopo from July 12th-16th, 2023. The festival’s main focus is to revive the famous Masks & Warwagira Festival and promote cultural tourism in the region.

The 2023 festival’s theme is “Culture Preservations, Youth Engagement & Participation” and there will be many highlights to look forward to. These include the Tubuan Kinavai, Tubuan performances, Baining Mumu Snake Cooking, Fire Eaters Performance, Goroka Asaro Mudman, Baining Fire Dance, Natiding Garamut Beating, String Bands Ensembles, New Ireland-Malagan Cultural Group, Students’ Pageant Show Quest, Traditional Cooking Illustrations, and TINBUK Night Dance.

During the five-day festival, corporate business houses are invited to showcase their products and promote their businesses in corporate stalls. In addition, the festival promotes arts and crafts, small and medium enterprises, and all cultural activities within the three different ethnic groups of people in ENBP: The Tolai, The Baining, and the Qaqet.
